Our Mission - Accessibility Champions

Mission Statement

Demystify accessibility best practices, teach everyone basic digital accessibility expectations, and make Accessibility Champions out of all people we have the pleasure to reach and serve.

How Do We Achieve the Mission?

Streamlining your digital accessibility review and procurement process is a game-changer for businesses. It ensures that technology is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities, which is not only a best practice but also a legal requirement in many cases. By adopting a universal design approach, companies can save costs over time and enhance user satisfaction. This holistic strategy involves understanding accessibility requirements, incorporating them into solicitations, and validating vendor claims, ultimately leading to a more inclusive digital environment.

#TabThruThursdays

Simplify what we can, build confidence, and make accessibility champions. The creator of #TabThruThursdays suggests that everyone can and should test keyboard navigation.

Most everyone can test basic keyboard navigation expectations, here's how:

  • TAB keypress moves from interactive component to interactive component.
  • Enter keypress functions as a "click."
  • Visible keyboard focus effects let you know what interactive component you are on currently.

Are you testing your website's keyboard focus, order, and function right now? Keyboard focus testing is a critical component of a digital accessibility review.

A few expectations of your testing experience are:

  • Do you always know what interactive component you are on currently?
  • Did that interactive component function as a "click" upon Enter keypress?
  • Was the very first TAB stop (interactive component) on your page a Skip to Main function?

If your website passed these three tests kudos! Your website likely functions in the top percentage of worldwide websites. If it did not, do not panic, create a plan to address the concerns today!

Color Contrast Quick Test

Current statistics state that one in twelve men or an estimated 300 million people worldwide are colorblind. Color contrast testing is rather simple and there are several free tools available.

The minimum expectation of content that is meant to be seen is

  • 3:1 minimum contrast ratio

Are you reviewing your website content now?

Or perhaps you are looking at marketing materials, training manuals, or even an email from a co-worker?

By no means are we suggesting to shoot for the minimums! Far from it. Higher contrast is generally better and is required to achieve AAA levels. Simply know if your content is below a 3:1 contrast ratio, millions of people will not see it.

Time For the Professionals

Let's discuss your needs and the scope of the digital accessibility review necessary to achieve your goals.
